Have you spilled pasta sauce on the new wool sweater? Or do you have children's clothes in wool with stains? Here you will find advice.
1. Remove the stain as soon as possible.
Try with water first. Hold the stain under pressure from the tap, and rinse from the inside out.
2. Try stain remover.
On difficult stains, you can try a stain remover, but only if the manufacturer has stated that the agent can be used on wool. On greasy stains, liquid for dishwash can be effective. Soak the stain and leave it for a while. Then rinse by holding the stain under pressure from the tap.
3. Can't remove the stain? Do not throw away the woolen garment!
If it is not possible to remove the stain, you can possibly cut the stain out of the garment and sow the hole, or embroider a patch over it.
4. Before you put the garment in washing machine: Remember that wool garments need to be washed less often.
The most energy-demanding part of the life cycle of a garment is often wash after wash in hot water. Wool has antibacterial properties that prevent odors and does not need to be washed often. If you air the wool garment after each use, it can last a long time between each wash.
5. Wool garments should not be soaked.
It can damage the fibers and also lead to discolouration.
6. A lot of wool can be machine washed, but use the wool programme.
Wool garments can pill and shrink if they are treated too harshly. To preserve the wool garment for as long as possible, it should be washed on a wool program at 40 degrees or less, and preferably with low, or no spinning. Put less laundry in the machine than you usually do.
7. Choose a suitable detergent for wool.
Ordinary detergents can be harmful to wool garments and all wool should be washed with special detergents for wool. These have been developed for extra gentle treatment.
8. Drop the dryer.
Wool garments should be air dried. Stretch them back into shape (carefully) before hanging them up. Wet wool stretches easily, so hang heavy wool garments from several points or dry them flat on a rack or towel.
